What It’s Like

SWTFC Baby & Toddler Group is a really lovely Monday option in Saffron Walden, especially if you’re after something welcoming and easy to attend. When I visited, the atmosphere was warm from the start and the women running it were genuinely friendly and approachable.

The hall had plenty set out for a wide age range, from babies through to around 4 years old. There were toys for different stages, a cosy book nook, homemade playdough, soft play, a ball pit and ride-ons/trikes, so there was lots to keep little ones occupied.

It felt like a group where you could settle in quite quickly, have a chat, and let your little one explore without feeling like you had to constantly move them on to the next thing.

Session Flow

The morning worked well and had a nice natural rhythm:

• Free play with toys and activity areas

• Snack time for the children

• Group story time before home time

Snacks included fresh fruit, cucumber sticks, biscuits, crisps and water for the little ones, which was a really nice touch.

Tea and coffee were available for parents in a separate clubhouse/bar room just off to the right as you go in. Keeping the hot drinks in a separate room felt like a sensible setup from a safety point of view.

Parking + Practical Bits

One useful thing to know before you go: don’t stop at the pay-and-display/playground car park.

If you keep driving past the football club on your left and continue to the bottom of the road, there’s a large free parking area there, which is a much better option for parents.

There’s also baby changing on site, with a large single bathroom, a folding changing table, steps for children and a smaller toilet seat for older little ones, which makes it feel very parent-friendly.

Walden Weekly Tip

This one feels especially good for parents who want a Monday group that’s easy to attend without having to worry about booking ahead. The combination of free play, snack and story time gives the morning a nice rhythm, without it feeling overly structured.

How It Compares

This feels like a really useful Monday option locally, especially as other Monday toddler groups can be harder to get into or book regularly. It’s easy to attend, welcoming, and has plenty to keep children busy.
