About Walden Weekly

I started Walden Weekly because, honestly… I was fed up of not knowing what was going on.

When I became a first-time mum to my little girl, I was completely thrown. I’d moved into this new season of life and suddenly felt lonely, out of my depth, and constantly Googling toddler groups and family activities in Saffron Walden at 2am. And even living in Saffron Walden and the surrounding villages, it was surprisingly hard to find local events and things to do all in one place.

So I thought — fine. I’ll fix it.

Walden Weekly is here to make local life easier. It’s a simple, friendly guide to what’s happening in and around Saffron Walden — from toddler groups and family-friendly activities to community events and hidden gems in the surrounding villages.

Whether you’re a parent, grandparent, carer or just someone looking for things to do in Saffron Walden, this is your shortcut. Less scrolling, more doing. Less guessing, more getting out the house.

If it helps even one other parent feel a little less overwhelmed and a little more connected, it’s done its job.

And if you’d like a little nudge when new events, toddler groups or local updates are added, you can sign up to the Walden Weekly newsletter below. No spam. Just the good stuff.

Coverage Area

Walden Weekly focuses on family-friendly events, toddler groups and things to do based around Saffron Walden — with most activities within a 20-minute drive.

Because let’s be honest… not all little ones tolerate long car journeys. And most parents don’t need the extra stress.

So I prioritise activities that are:

  • Close enough to feel doable

  • Flexible around naps

  • Realistic for babies and toddlers

  • Easy to say yes to on an ordinary Tuesday

You’ll find listings based around:

Saffron Walden, Great Chesterford, Newport, Wendens Ambo, Debden, Ashdon, Thaxted, Clavering, Rickling & Quendon, Stansted Mountfitchet, Elsenham, Wimbish, Littlebury, Arkesden, Duddenhoe End and other nearby villages within roughly 20 minutes of town.

Occasionally, I’ll feature something slightly further afield — up to around 30 minutes from Saffron Walden — but only if it’s genuinely worth the journey for a full day out.

Walden Weekly is designed to make discovering things to do with kids near Saffron Walden simple, manageable and actually enjoyable.

No epic road trips required.
