Busy places & trying not to lose your mind

The Easter holidays always bring a bit of anxiety for me.

On one hand, it is lovely that spring is finally showing up and the warmer days mean parks are back on the table. On the other, everything suddenly feels busier. The places we normally go get packed, routines shift, and I always have that low level worry about my little girl getting trampled by bigger kids or tipping into tantrum territory because everything is a bit too much.

I think that is the part I find hardest. It is not really the holidays themselves, it is the change. The usual rhythm goes out the window, the quiet toddler spots are no longer quite so quiet, and you have to think a few steps ahead just to keep everyone happy.

For me, managing that anxiety usually comes down to one thing, which is leaning into what makes my daughter happiest. She absolutely bloody loves watching the older kids, even when they are not exactly watching out for her. Eye roll. So even if a place is busier than I would normally like, sometimes it is still worth it because she is having the best time just soaking it all in.

I also try to keep some sort of routine in place, even if it is not perfect. A morning activity as early as possible usually works best for us, then nap around lunchtime, then the afternoon is for the park if the weather is decent. And if I am really desperate and need an easy win, it is off to Scottsdales to see the fishies.

I am also putting together a little Easter to do list on the site later this week to help mums work out what to do over the break, and I will add a tab on the home page too so it is easy to find. My hope is that it gives us all one less thing to think about when the holidays arrive and the usual routine goes slightly out the window.

That said, parks can be a bit of a minefield too. Some are brilliant for little ones, some are much better for bigger children, and some just feel stressful when you are trying to keep a toddler safe while also pretending you are having a relaxing outing. So watch this space, because I am going to start pulling together some of the best parks around for younger children too.

If you are feeling a bit anxious about the Easter holidays too, just know you are definitely not the only one. Sometimes the goal is not to have the perfect day out. Sometimes it is simply to keep them busy, keep them happy, and get through it with as few meltdowns as possible.

And honestly, that is more than enough.
